Why frequency is the most important variable in a cleaning program
Facility managers focus on per-square-foot rates, and cleaning companies let them, because price is easier to compare than scope. But the single biggest driver of whether a cleaning program keeps your building in good condition is frequency. A thorough nightly program in a 48-hour-between-visits facility will still leave restrooms in poor condition by Thursday afternoon. A twice-weekly program in a low-traffic office with one restroom is almost certainly adequate.
Frequency by facility type
| Facility type | Recommended frequency | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Medical or dental office | Nightly (5x/week) | Clinical surface requirements; restrooms serving patients |
| High-traffic office (40+ people) | Nightly or 3x/week | Kitchen and restroom load drives frequency |
| Standard professional office (10–40 people) | 3x/week | Adequate for most office building profiles in Hugo |
| Small professional office (under 10 people) | 2x/week | Light restroom and kitchen load; hard to justify nightly |
| Retail (moderate traffic) | Nightly or 3x/week | Customer-facing areas need to stay presentable daily |
| Warehouse with office component | 3x/week for office; daily for break room and restrooms | Different frequency by zone is normal and appropriate |
| Light industrial, no customer traffic | 2x/week | Typically adequate; floor care is a separate line item |
The restroom rule
The simplest heuristic for minimum frequency: how often does your facility need restrooms serviced? If the answer is daily, you need at least a three-times-weekly cleaning program. If the restrooms can go 48 hours between service without complaints, twice weekly is the floor. If they need attention every day, you're looking at nightly service regardless of what the rest of the building needs.
Seasonal frequency adjustments
Hugo-area facilities should consider increasing frequency or adding entry-cleaning visits during the road-salt season (October through April). Salt tracking through lobbies and onto hard floors accumulates faster than a twice-weekly schedule can address. Many clients in our service area add an entry-only cleaning pass on non-cleaning days during winter months.
How we determine frequency for your facility
The scope walkthrough covers this question specifically. We note restroom count, occupancy, kitchen load, and any time-sensitive areas, and make a frequency recommendation before we quote. Most clients find that the recommendation matches what they were considering — the walkthrough exists to make sure neither party is surprised.
